Organ Procurement Coordinator  
Candidate will respond to donor referrals from local hospitals and ensure that each referral is reviewed for donation suitability.  Will work with families to obtain consent for donation and manage the physiology of the donor to ensure maximum availability of organs for transplantation.  Will work with transplant hospitals to place organs according to UNOS guidelines and assist in the recovery of organs in the operating room.  Must demonstrate ability to assess data reflective of the donor's status and interpret appropriate information needed to provide excellent donor medical management.  Excellent interpersonal skills required.  

Qualifications: Candidate will be a graduate from an RN or PA program with one year of experience in ICU, ED or the OR; or respiratory therapist with five years experience in ICU or emergency care; or an individual that has six months to one year of practical experience as an Organ Procurement Coordinator.  Previous organ/tissue donation experience preferred for all candidates.

Family Advocate

The family advocate is the first responder to donor referrals from area hospitals.  Rapid on-site response time required for area hospitals.  Primary responsibility is to offer the option of organ, tissue and eye donation for transplantation or medical research to families of potential donors and obtaining a past medical history.  Information is to be articulated in an easily understood and accurate manner to families whose ability to process information is impaired by emotionally traumatic circumstances. Coordinates and facilitates emotional support during and after the discussion of the donation process—remaining aware and sensitive to diversity of all kinds (cultural, religious, educational, etc.) while working with families and hospital staff.  Secondary responsibilities are to provide assistance to the local hospital development coordinator in working with the hospitals to solidify the referral process, provide inservices, perform death record reviews, etc.  Position requires 15 days per month of on-call duties for 24-7 referral response to hospitals within the area.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, sociology or related allied health degree preferred with previous experience in an acute health care setting, hospice, bereavement counseling center, patient representative, etc. preferred, or equivalent work experience where there was active involvement in issues involving death, dying, grief and loss. Completion of medical terminology course preferred. Outstanding interpersonal communications skill required for ability to interact with grieving families in a supportive, empathic manner while taking into consideration actual or potential cultural diversities. Ability to comfortably use desktop computer to access and utilize database, draft letters, send/receive email, and access the Internet for vital information/resources to assist donor families.
