Our donor family quilt is one of our most treasured projects. Named for a young donor from Tallahassee, this quilt project contains a collection of memories from donor families throughout our service area. We have 10 panels of the quilt, with each square lovingly crafted by the family of a donor. We display the quilt panels at special events throughout the community, and when not in use, the panels are on display at LifeQuest offices and Southeast Tissue Alliance offices. Participation in the quilt project is available to all organ and tissue donor families in our area.
A beautifully decorated tree with ornaments representing organ and tissue donors and transplant recipients was on display in the Shands Jacksonville expansion lobby for the month of July 2010.
Donate Life Day is a celebration of life, complete with live music, family-friendly activities and inspiring stories of lives changed through the gifts of organ and tissue donation. Local donation organizations and community volunteers host this event, billed as the largest, single-day donor registration drive in northern Florida.
The Katie Ride is a bicycling and fundraising event named for Katie Caples, a young girl from Jacksonville who became an organ donor in 1998. The ride has courses ranging from seven to 100 miles with full support along the way. Funds raised through the Katie Ride are used to promote donor education in area high schools.
