Kyle Ford tragically lost his life after a bicycle accident when he was only 15. When the doctors told his mother, Pam, that he had not survived, it was news that no mother is prepared to hear. What Pam heard next, however, would forever change Kyle’s family and their community of Bell, Florida.
Pam was told about her options for organ donation, and she knew that given Kyle’s generous spirit he would have wanted to be able to help others. In fact, shortly before his accident, Kyle signed up to be a donor on his driver permit and told his mom he wanted to be a donor should anything ever happen to him.
Kyle was able to donate his liver, both kidneys and heart to four different recipients. Bell High School held a memorial and planted a live oak in front of the school in Kyle’s memory, and many students joined Florida’s donor registry in honor of their classmate.
“We were honored to fulfill his last wishes of being an organ and tissue donor,” said Pam Ford. “Even though we didn't get a miracle for Kyle that day, he was a miracle for four others by giving them a second chance at life."
